my favorite animals

Dr. Hislop used manatee in his example sentence the other day in class. Then he told us this story about living in Florida and taking his son to go see the manatees. You could touch them if you wanted to but his little boy was afraid. Dr. Hislop laughed and said, "They feel like hairy sandpaper." Precious.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work today and they were talking about humor in prayer. One guy said, "We know God has a sense of humor, just look at the platypus." I was laughing so hard.

I have seen Manatees in the water in Florida. All along the intercoastal waterway one sees signs posted for boaters that read: Slow for Manatees...sort of like deer crossings..Many have been killed or injured by speedy boaters. Manatees are not speedy swimmers and have trouble scurrying out of the way when a speeding yacht comes their way. They would never be described as fast swimmers. Also, all along the road to Key West one can spot plaster Manatees holding mailboxes. One time during Easter vacation, as we drove south to the Keyes, people had decorated theirs...I made my husband stop so that I could get my picture taken with a plaster mailbox holding Manatee dressed up like an Easter bunny...now that is precious!!
